Many people assume that intelligent students will automatically score high in TOEFL. Surprisingly, that is not always the case. Every year, some very bright students receive scores that are lower than expected.

Why does this happen?

TOEFL Tests More Than Intelligence

TOEFL is not simply an exam that measures how smart a person is. It tests specific skills such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing in English. A student may be excellent in mathematics, science, or other subjects but still struggle with academic English.

Lack of Familiarity With the Test Format
