The TOEFL iBT received some updates in 2026, and many test takers are already noticing differences in their preparation and test-day experience. But one interesting question remains:
Which section benefited the most from these changes?
Some students believe the Speaking section gained the most because the tasks feel more focused and easier to understand. Others argue that the Writing section benefited the most, as the revised format allows test takers to demonstrate their ideas more clearly.
Meanwhile, some candidates say the biggest winner is actually the Reading section, since the shorter overall test reduces fatigue and helps them stay focused. Others appreciate improvements to the Listening section, which now feels more connected to real-life academic situations.
