But before you can access any of that, you need to meet the English proficiency requirement. Here is exactly what score you need.

However, it is important to know that TOEFL is only required for English-taught programs. If your program is taught in German, you will need a German language certificate instead.

A TOEFL score of 90 to 100 works well for top-tier universities where competition is high. For mid-tier universities, a score of 80 and above is typically sufficient. Here is how specific universities break down:

Technical University of Munich, one of Germany’s highest-ranked universities requires a minimum TOEFL score of 88 for most English-taught programs, with some specialised master’s programs requiring 95 or higher. LMU Munich accepts a minimum of 72 for undergraduate programs and 80 for most master’s programs. RWTH Aachen requires 90 for most English-taught master’s programs. Humboldt University Berlin accepts a minimum of 80. TU Berlin accepts scores ranging from 79 to 92 depending on the program.

The Safe Target for Nigerian Students

A score of 90 and above is considered very competitive for admission to top German universities. If Germany is your destination, make 90 your minimum target and push for 95 or above if you are applying to elite programs in engineering, medicine, or computer science.

One Important Reminder
