Knowing what happens on exam day before you get there removes a huge amount of unnecessary stress. Here is exactly what to expect from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
Before You Leave Home
The night before your exam, pack everything you need. The most important item is a valid, acceptable form of identification. For Nigerian students, this means your international passport and the name on it must match exactly what you used during registration. Do not leave this to the morning of the exam.
Do not study or take any practice tests the day before. Your brain needs to rest. Get a good night’s sleep seven to nine hours is ideal.
Arriving at the Test Centre
Plan to arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start time. If you arrive late, you may not be allowed to take the test. Factor in Lagos traffic leave earlier than you think you need to.
The Check-In Process
Staff will carefully verify your ID against your registration details. You may be asked to empty your pockets and have your belongings inspected. Your photo will also be taken and will appear on your score report. You will sign a confidentiality agreement confirming you will not discuss test content with others.
During the Exam
The sections are always presented in the same order Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. There is a 10-minute break after the first two sections. The full test lasts between 200 and 230 minutes, and you can expect to leave the centre approximately 4 to 4.5 hours after you arrived
Paper and pencil are provided at the centre for notes. You are allowed to bring a water bottle and snacks for the break.
After the Exam
Once you complete the exam, you will be given an opportunity to cancel your scores if you wish before signing out. If you are happy with how it went, simply leave your scores as they are. Results are typically available within four to eight days.
