How to Use the Media Library Properly

The Media Library in WordPress stores all images, videos, and documents you upload. Using it properly keeps your site organized and helps pages load faster.

1. How to open the Media Library
From your dashboard go to:
Media → Library

You will see all uploaded files in grid or list view.

2. Upload media the right way

You can upload by:

• Clicking Add New
• Dragging files into the upload area
• Uploading directly inside posts/pages

Tip: resize and compress images before uploading.

3. Add important image details

After uploading an image, fill in:

• Alt Text — helps SEO and accessibility
• Title — internal reference
• Caption — optional display text
• Description — optional metadata

Do not skip Alt Text.

4. Use proper image sizes

Avoid uploading very large images. Best practice:

• Resize to the maximum display width
• Compress the file
• Use JPG for photos, PNG for graphics

This improves load speed.

5. Reuse existing media

Before uploading a new file, check the library. Reusing files prevents duplicates and saves storage.

6. Delete unused files

Over time, remove media you no longer use. This keeps your library clean and backups smaller.

7. Organize with a naming pattern

Name files clearly before upload, for example:

• homepage-hero.jpg
• product-red-shoe.png

Avoid names like IMG_1234.jpg.
