If you did not get the score you wanted on your first attempt, do not panic. The TOEFL retake policy is one of the most flexible among international English exams and this is good news for Nigerian students.
There Is No Limit on Attempts
ETS allows candidates to retake the TOEFL as often as they wish. The only restriction is a mandatory waiting period you must wait at least 12 days after your previous attempt before you can retake the test. There is no annual cap, no lifetime limit, and no penalty on your application for taking the exam multiple times, but you must pay the standard testing fee for every single attempt you make.
How Often Is the TOEFL Available in Nigeria?
The TOEFL is conducted more than 50 to 60 times a year at authorised centres. Students can choose their preferred exam centre and test date and book their slot online through the ETS website. In practical terms, Nigerian students in Lagos have some of the most frequent test date options in West Africa.
Will Universities Know How Many Times You Sat?
No, and this is important. Taking the TOEFL multiple times will absolutely not hurt your applications. Admissions officers do not care how many times you take the TOEFL. You are fully in control of which score reports are sent to universities. If you retake and score higher, you simply send the better score.

The TOEFL is not a one-shot exam. Take your time, prepare properly, and use every attempt to get closer to your target score.
