Golf, in the later part of the last century became a famous sport in nations like the US and UK where people were ready to support a game that would improve and organize their concentration and in turn would turn as one of the best ways of recreation. When the importance of golf gaming and the popularity of the players increased, a need was felt to streamline and channelize the publicity and support rendered towards the game. This in turn emphasized a need for establishment of a governing body that would authorize and authenticate the game and would also frame the set of rules for the game and device and regulate conventions that needs to be followed throughout. When people were trying to know the parameters framed to evaluate skills of a golfer, a question arose on basics. That was… “What is course handicap?” This arose because handicap in golf is a major numerical parameter determining the ability of a player in different tries in the same course.

Later, when the set of conventions were published, the answer for a basic query “What is course handicap?” was said as the number that determines how many strokes a player or an amateur probably consumes to clear off a shot or in other words the number of attempts taken to reduce his or her net score in each holes and in different golf courses. Handicap in Golf was actually a famous parameter amongst the beginners or amateurs and various clubs maintained databases of these parameters to ensure that the club had skilled players at various levels.

Once these statistical parameters got famous, the frequency of the questioning “What is course handicap?” drastically reduced. People started following the game keenly to an extent that they did not have to refer a separate rule book to understand these sport jargons. These concepts like the handicap in golf became a part and parcel of the game. Regional, National and international level players enthusiastically participated in active debates involving the framing, execution and error troubleshooting mechanisms regarding this issue. Gradually, because of all these factors the technical jargon became a common word that was used very often in casual talks amongst the people and youngsters who followed the game and maintained a database of even the local club players and their achievements and their course handicap scores and by all these, the game gained immense popularity.
